 2023 Preview

Stanhope Elmore completed the 2022 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Stanhope Elmore just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 6A region two with a 3-3 region record.

Since 2010, Stanhope Elmore has gone a combined 71-68. Their 51.1% winning percentage ranks 32nd in Class 6A over the past thirteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Stanhope Elmore has managed to compile a record of 163-115. Their 59.0% winning percentage ranks 21st in Class 6A and 100th in the AHSAA.

The Mustangs will be under the direction of new head football coach Hunter Adams as they enter the 2023 season.  Coach Adams has served two stints as the Mustangs defensive coordinator. He coached under former Coach Jeff Foshee in 2011. He has been the defensive coordinator since 2017.

The Mustangs could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region two this season with a few breaks and a little improvement. Stanhope Elmore missed the playoffs the past couple of seasons but hope to return to the post season in 2023.

QB Jacob Bryant will be returning after completing 141 of 238 passes for 1,621 yards last season along with 12 touchdowns.

The Mustangs open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Shades Valley on Friday, August 25 at Frank A. Nix Memorial Athletic Complex. Last year the Shades Valley Mounties finished with an overall record of 5-4 and in fifth place in Class 6A region six.

Stanhope Elmore and Shades Valley have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Mustangs have a 2-2-0 record against the Mounties. They last met in 2022 with Shades Valley winning by a score of 20-13.

Stanhope Elmore lost 6A All-State  offensive lineman Colton Walls to graduation. He was named to the second team last season.
